Swap This #1 – Plastic Cling Wrap for Sustainable Food Covers

Each fortnight for the six months until the end of 2013, I will be doing a series of short posts titled ‘Swap This’. These posts will be centred around ways to make little changes by using alternative products to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill. I hope to show you that there are other options to buying over packaged goods and maybe you will save a little money too!

It took me a while to take the plunge and buy these beautiful food covers from 4 My Earth but I haven’t looked back.

The 4 My Earth products are made from cotton/canvas with a biodegradable coating and not only are they environmentally a great idea they are also ethically produced.

It’s a no-brainer why we shouldn’t use plastic wrap, rarely can this type of plastic be recycled so it can only go straight to landfill.

For a long time I tried to put leftovers into separate containers and cover any food I had out in preparation for dinner with an overturned plate on top but I was running out of containers and unnecessarily dirtying my plates.

I have found with the addition of these food covers to my kitchen, I don’t use plastic wrap at all (except for this photo shoot….!) so that’s one less resource I have to worry about putting in the bin.

Check out 4 My Earth for beautifully designed food covers, sandwich wraps, school lunch bags and more.
